Smart Packaging Solutions expands logistics capacity with new logistics centre in Meer

Smart Packaging Solutions has opened a new 30,000 m² logistics centre in Meer. This brings our total storage space in Meer, spread across several warehouses, to more than 51,000 m². The expansion strengthens our logistics capability and offers customers more flexibility, greater delivery reliability and shorter transport distances.

The logistics centre in Meer is close to our production site and was chosen for strategic reasons. It is located centrally between the Smart Packaging Solutions production plants in Oudegem, Meer and Loenen. It also sits in a favourable position between the ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam, with excellent motorway connections to the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.

“In logistics terms, Meer is the ideal location for our central logistics centre,” says Hans Baestroey, Logistics Manager at Smart Packaging Solutions. “By organising our stock centrally here, we can limit transport distances and deliver quickly to customers in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. That helps us keep logistics costs low while improving our delivery reliability.”

Central stock makes it even easier to respond flexibly to customer demand. Packaging can be held in stock and delivered whenever customers need it. “If customers order before 12 noon, we can deliver the next day in Belgium, the Netherlands and a large part of Germany. Delivering on that promise every day requires well-organised stock and logistics. That is how we make a difference for our customers, day in, day out.”

With the purchase and commissioning of the new centre, total storage capacity in Meer rises to more than 51,000 m². This allows the logistics organisation to grow in line with production volumes. Hans Baestroey: “Thanks to this new warehouse, we can handle increasing volumes efficiently without having to look for external storage locations again. It keeps logistics in our own hands and lets us work more efficiently. That gives us the room to keep serving our customers flexibly as volumes grow.”

The layout of the building also contributes to efficient operations. The site has 24 loading docks spread across the building, so different customers and goods flows can be handled efficiently side by side. “With 24 loading docks, we can coordinate loading and unloading perfectly. That makes our logistics operation more efficient and helps us get goods to the right destination as quickly as possible.”

The building is fitted with LED lighting that switches on and off automatically based on presence, so the lights are only on when needed.

For internal transport, Smart Packaging Solutions uses two of its own terminal tractors and six trailers to move goods between the production sites and warehouses. “That gives us maximum control over our logistics.”

The new centre is a key link in Smart Packaging Solutions’ international distribution network. Alongside our warehouses in Belgium and the Netherlands, we also have storage locations in countries including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Poland, Slovakia and Canada. From these locations, we can serve different markets efficiently. Baestroey: “Our logistics team keeps an overview of stock and distribution across the various locations. This allows us to determine, market by market, the most efficient way to supply each customer.”
